John McCain vs Barack Obama: финал!

Через 10+ дней нас ожидает финальный матч серии 'McCain - Obama'. С одной стороны нам (людям сторонним) вроде без разницы: кто бы не стал новым президентом Америки политика США в отношении например ЦА и России навряд ли изменится. С другой стороны наблюдать сражение двух претендентов на кресло в Овальном кабинете захватывает не хуже боев Тайсона с Холифилдом в лучшие времена. Нам есть чему поучиться в смысле политтехнологий.

Сейчас Обама впереди. Некоторые эксперты предсказывают победу Обамы с вероятностью в 80%. Я лично болею за Маккейна так как американские республиканцы мне как-то по душе. Партия Линкольна все-таки. Я также разделяю некоторые взгляды консерваторов касательно 'gun control' и абортов. Энергетическая программа Маккейна гораздо более реалистична. Кроме того политика республиканцев (по большей части) менее страдает популизмом в сравнении с политикой демократов. И вот вам пример:

At a town hall meeting January 6, 2008 McCain was reported to have answered a question on the Armenian Genocide by noting that he recognizes the Armenian Genocide, but opposes the Armenian Genocide Resolution due to the Turkish government's sensitivities and the importance of their continued contribution to the war on terror. On September 29, 2008, in an open letter to the Armenian-American Community of the United States he stated, that "it is fair to say that one of the greatest tragedies of the 20th century, the brutal murder of as many as one and a half million Armenians under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, has also been one of the most neglected" and that "it is our responsibility to recognize those tragic events".

On January 19, 2008 Obama announced that as a U.S. Senator, he has stood with the Armenian American community in calling for Turkey's acknowledgement of the Armenian Genocide, and supports its recognition. In 2006, Obama criticized Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for firing United States Ambassador to Armenia, John Evans, after he used the term "genocide" to describe Turkey's killing of hundreds of thousands of Armenians. On June, 2008 Obama restated his commitment to U.S. recognition of the Armenian Genocide in a letter to ANCA Chairman Ken Hachikian. Obama supported House Resolution 106 which recognized the killings as genocide.

Дело вовсе не в борьбе за голоса избирателей армянского происхождения. Большинство американских армян проживает в Калифорнии которая давно является 'синим штатом' и отдаст свои 55 голосов Обаме в независимости от точки зрения армянской диаспоры. Это именно позиция: Обама политизирует историю в то время как Маккейн подходит к вопросу с чисто прагматической точки зрения.
